On Sunday 23rd April 2017, tens of thousands of runners took to the streets of London for one of the world’s most iconic races, the Virgin Money London Marathon.
This year, Theo Oulton from Virgin Sport, ran his first-ever marathon to raise money for the Eve Branson Foundation and we couldn’t be prouder of Theo’s achievement. It was the first time we’ve secured a place in the race and Eve led the loudest cheering squad along the race route to spur Theo on!
We asked Theo to share his top three motivations for taking on this incredible challenge:
1/ “The London Marathon is something I have always dreamed of doing since being a kid and watching my Dad run the race. The Marathon, Notting Hill Carnival, the Olympics… these are the special occasions when people come out in full force to celebrate each other and just have a great time.
2/ The amazing team at Virgin Sport who have inspired and moved me (quite literally!) everyday – they are my crew helping me every step of the way through this first marathon!
3/ The wonderful Eve Branson Foundation. I am so delighted to be raising money for Eve and her tireless efforts for the people in the Atlas Mountains. Eve is such an inspiration to us all, a true force of nature. I think I’m running the London Marathon because now that I have told her that’s what I’m doing, she won’t let me stop!!’”
You can help Theo smash his fundraising target by sponsoring him here.
Seeing runners of all levels taking part for great causes is what makes the London Marathon extra special. Funds raised by Theo will help more young people living in rural Morocco to learn new skills so they can start to earn an income and support healthcare initiatives in Berber communities.
Our huge thanks to Theo for lacing up on the cold, dark Winter mornings to train. You really are changing lives Theo!
