Woodwork Programme

Back to our work

Tansghart Woodwork Centre

Tansghart Woodwork Centre was set up to help tackle youth unemployment and a lack of vocational training for young men in Asni who have dropped out of school – with an overall aim of addressing the skills gap. Participants learn how to create bespoke furniture from locally sourced fallen wood and artisanal decor such as hand-carved walnut bowls.

All trainees undergo rigorous health and safety training in machinery and tool usage. Many of their items such as carved wooden games and serving platters now feature at Kasbah Tamadot.

If you’re a guest at Kasbah Tamadot or just visiting the area you can purchase products made at our craft centres directly from the EBF Shop adjacent to Kasbah Tamadot – a wonderful space selling contemporary artisan items. Next door you will find the Berber Boutique, a treasure trove of traditional Moroccan carpets and Berber antiquities.

Visit us

Many people in Morocco’s rural Atlas Mountains drop out of education at a young age. In our craft centres, we provide the opportunity to learn artisanal skills using traditional techniques which have been passed through many generations.

If you are planning a trip to Morocco and would like us to arrange a personalised tour of our projects and meet the artisans behind some of our beautifully handmade products, you can book an excursion here.

Visitors can see the different skills being practiced firsthand on our programmes.
